Cris Vandevel's Mechanical Calculator Collection

by Cris Vandevel·BEBelgium

Cris Vandevel's collection is devoted primarily to mechanical four-function calculating machines. Started in 2002, it has grown to more than 250 machines, with an emphasis on non-electric calculators and unusual or technically interesting mechanisms. Many objects have been personally repaired or restored by Vandevel, and the website documents individual machines through detailed photographs, descriptions and accounts of their acquisition and restoration. The collection reflects both the technological history of mechanical calculation and the collector's practical interest in understanding how the machines were constructed and operated.
